Dermaplaning is an alternative to microdermabrasion for exfoliation of the rough, dead outer skin cells during a facial. It is performed as an optional add-on during a customized back facial. This painless procedure shaves away the outer skin cells by using the edge of a blade. The primary difference in results in comparison to microdermabrasion is that dermaplaning removes velus hair (peach fuzz), leaving a smooth surface which is perfectly primed for a rejuvenation procedure, such as a back facial or chemical peel.
